Looking to apply for a position in ASB?
ASB is currently not accepting applications. Information will be provided in P3 about elections for the 2024-2025 school year. 6th graders - information about 6th Grade Rep. elections will be provided in November 2023.
Read the following position descriptions to determine what would be the best fit for you, except for 6th graders; you can run for 6th Grade Representative.
Please be aware that the primary difference in the applications is that Executive Officer Applicants will record a speech video (no longer than 2 minutes) to be voted on by the student population. Commissioner Applicants will possibly be asked to attend an interview.
Your application will not be considered if you do not meet the GPA or citizenship requirements (calculated based on P3 Report).

Executive Officer Positions
ASB President (8th grade returning members): - Preside over and prepare agendas for all ASB Student Council meetings - Give a speech at 8th Grade Promotion. - Assist the ASB Advisor in planning and team-building activities. - Assist Vice President in overseeing all executive and committees and ASB Bonding Days. - Facilitate all class discussions and decisions. - Represent the student body - Communicate with staff and school administration. ASB Vice-President (New 8th grade OR returning 7th grader): - Fulfill the duties of the President in the latter’s absence - Oversee/assist all executive and commissioner positions, along with the President - Monitor attendance at all ASB Activities - Monitor student store inventory - Assist the ASB President in the planning of all meetings and the yearly banquet - Promote the ASB class to educate the student body on their accomplishments (member of the month) - Plan a minimum of 2 ASB Bonding Days. ASB Secretary (7th or 8th grader): - Keep a full and correct record of all ASB Student Council, weekly Executive Council, and Rep-Council meetings - Post the minutes of the previous meeting to approve - In charge of updating the calendar of events - Oversee maintenance of (update) the ASB web page - Must be able to type or write quickly! ASB Treasurer (7th or 8th grader): - Keep charge of all Associated Student Body funds - Keep the student council well informed of the financial status of the ASB accounts - Responsible for getting weekly reports of student store profit from financial clerk (Ms. Alvarez). - Approve all expenditures that fall within each commissioner’s budget - Oversee all club budgets - Manage and monitor all ASB class fundraisers - Must have great math skills and be able to work well with money. 6th Grade Representative (6th grader): - Elected in P2, starts term in S2 - Represents 6th Grade Student Body All positions are expected to: Maintain a class binder and an officer notebook. When not conducting business, help wherever needed and attend at least 1 summer meeting to prepare for the following year. |
Commissioner Positions:
Term limit is 1 semester All commissioners are responsible for: -Their committee running smoothly -Leading committee meetings, making sure that everyone is heard -Meeting with VP each week to discuss committee plans and progress. -Speaking on behalf of the committee at Council Meetings -Delegating tasks within their committee -Problem solving--with the help of VP and President if needed -Ensuring that everyone is on task within their committee. -Reporting to VP, President and/or Advisor when members are absent, refusing to work, not showing up for commitments or consistently off-task. -Making sure all committee tasks are cleaned up/organized after events and daily work in the classroom -Keeping a binder/typed document detailing your responsibilities as Commissioner/committee for each event and details of your event (planning, prepping, executing) -Attend at least 1 meeting in the summer to plan for next year’s activities Overview of each committee Events: -Events Committee and subcommittees plans, preps and executes events -Responsible for events such as dances, Spirit Weeks, Talent Show, Movie and Munchies, Halloween Carnival, Art Walk...etc. (Note there are 2 Event committees, with 2 separate commissioners) Friday Activities: - Friday Activities committee preps, plans and executes biweekly Friday Activities to be held at both lunches. - Responsible for finding, preparing and executing fun games, prizes, an appropriate playlist and more. Improvement: - Improvement committee improves the campus, classroom, student store and community through organization, cleaning and decorating. - Responsible for supplies in the classroom, designing the bulletin boards around the school, holiday decorating (classroom, student store, office), finding new items for the student store, campus and park clean ups...etc Leopards: - Leopards Committee promotes LEOPARDS way and supports Advisory activities. - Leopards committee is responsible for door decorating contests, finding guest speakers, service projects, college fairs, career fairs, planning at least 1 activity per month associated with the character focus (ex: ethics=anti-bullying pledge, adaptability=blindfold challenge, participation=cards for kids in the hospital...), etc... Student Recognition: - Student Recognition committee recognizes students and student achievement at Lewis and in ASB. - Responsible for student and teacher birthdays, honor roll, character awards, student vs staff games, ASB Member of the Month, upkeeping an ASB Member Recognition Board. |
What do you do if you would not like any of these positions?
Select the one that you would feel most comfortable and capable in; you may end up with one or none of them and still be a member of ASB. ASB is a leadership class and you will be required to be a leader no matter which position you are in. While you must run for a position, you can always request to be just a member. :)
